About ScrewBoltSize

A free, measurement-first identifier for screws and bolts — with the reference charts and technical guides that go with it.

What We Do

screwboltsize.com gives you a fast, accurate way to identify any screw or bolt by its measurements. Enter diameter, length, and thread pitch, pick the head and drive style, and the tool returns a canonical designation — for example M6 × 1.0 × 25 mm or 1/4‑20 × 1" — with common-size cross-references. No downloads, no accounts, no tracking of what you measure.

The database covers metric sizes from M1.6 to M36 and imperial sizes from #0 through 1" (fractional and gauge), across eight common head types (Flat, Pan, Round, Truss, Button, Hex, Socket Cap, Bugle) and eight drive types (Phillips, Slotted, Hex/Allen, Torx, Robertson, Pozidriv, Tri-wing, External Hex). For users without calipers, an on-screen calibration ruler is provided.

Beyond the tool, we publish practical articles on fastener identification: how to measure a screw or bolt, metric vs SAE conversion, thread pitch (coarse vs fine, TPI vs mm), grade markings (Grade 5, Grade 8, Class 8.8, Class 10.9), and the dangerous lookalikes (M6 vs 1/4‑20, M8 vs 5/16").

Editorial Approach

Every article on this site is written to help real users identify and specify real fasteners. We check measurements against primary standards (ISO, ASTM, SAE, DIN) and manufacturer documentation before publishing, use uniform technical diagrams rather than stock photos, and update articles when standards or common retail practice change.

Articles may link to products on Amazon and other retailers through affiliate programs (see our Affiliate Disclosure, Privacy Policy, and Terms of Service). Affiliate revenue helps keep the identifier tool free for everyone. Product recommendations are selected on the basis of technical relevance to the article topic — not the size of the commission.

How the Site Is Funded

screwboltsize.com is funded through two sources: (1) display advertising served by Google AdSense, and (2) affiliate commissions from the Amazon Associates Program and similar retailer programs (Lowe's, The Home Depot). We do not sell your personal information. See our Privacy Policy for detail on advertising cookies and opt-out options.

A Note on Safety-Critical Use

The measurements, grade references, and charts on this Site are educational. For structural, automotive, aerospace, pressure-vessel, or other safety-critical applications, always verify the fastener specification against the relevant engineering drawing, manufacturer spec sheet, or applicable standard (ASTM, ISO, SAE, DIN) before installation. When in doubt, consult a qualified engineer.
